Case Study: Brittle bone disease

Image of Child and Tree
Annie is eleven. She is a bright, bubbly little girl of normal to high intelligence but she is very small and almost confined to a wheelchair due to brittle bone disease. She has attended a normal primary school until now and has sat the transfer test. (N.I). However, despite achieving a suitable grade for grammar school she has been refused entry because there is no suitable access for her wheelchair.

During the summer she attends a special playscheme for disabled children and their peers. She is inclined to form close relationships with her carers due to needing someone to push her around at all times. She is also beginning to go through puberty. She is inclined to attach herself to the young male care assistants.
