Welcome to the home of the Standing Conference on Teacher Education North and South or SCoTENS for short.
SCoTENS has been involved in supporting a wide range of research and conference projects since it was founded in 2003. Among the North-South research projects are Together Towards Inclusion; A Toolkit for Trainers
[0.6 MB]; A Preliminary Evaluation of a Teaching Package for Children with PMLD; the Irish Association for Social, Scientific and Environmental Education (IASSEE) Survey of Student Perceptions of History, Geography and Science; and a book on School Leadership in Ireland. SCoTENS along with the Centre for Cross Border Studies, also sponsored (with EU Peace Two funding) the research report Diversity in Early Years Education North and South: Implications for Teacher Education.
Among the North-South conference projects sponsored are the IASSEE’s 2003, 2004 and 2005 annual conferences; two conferences on Initial Teacher Education in 2003 and 2005; two conferences on Special Educational Needs and Iniital Teacher Education in 2004; a September 2004 Citizenship Education Conference; a joint conference between SCoTENS, the Education Studies Association of Ireland (ESAI) and the British Education Research Association (BERA) in February 2005; and a November 2005 conference on Universities and the Continuing Development of Teachers, North and South.
The site highlights resources on special education and citizenship which have been designed for teachers and teacher educators throughout the island of Ireland.
