A number of Higher Education Institutions in Ireland offer compulsory course for new lecturers in the Higher and Further Education sectors. For example the Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCHET) which is delivered here in the Queen’s University of Belfast and it is mainly a course for new lecturers to the University.
The aim of this study is to compare the methodological and pedagogical approaches taken by the various Higher Education Institutions who are involved in delivery of these courses and thereby identify ‘good practice’ in the Teaching of future Higher Education educators.
Further, the role of the professional bodies, for example, The Higher Education Academy in the design, content and delivery of these courses will be examined. Further possible areas of study are the quality assurance procedures for these courses as well as nouvelle methods of course delivery – such as distance learning, mobile learning, e-learning.
