Teaching in the Knowledge Society

Conference Year: 2007
Conference Location: Grand Hotel, Malahide, Co. Dublin

The theme of the 2007 SCoTENS conference was ‘Teaching in the Knowledge Society’. The theme and title sought to emphasise the impact of the knowledge society on teaching, including critically the important contribution which teachers and schools make towards equipping young folk with the insights, skills and attitudes required to be productive citizens within a 21st century setting.

Conference voices echoed and affirmed Andy Hargreaves oft quoted assertion that teaching is the key agent of change in the knowledge society, a point reflected by Mary Hanafin when she emphasised the importance of supporting teachers in a changing world, where society is becoming more dependent on knowledge.
