Key objectives of the Irish Government’s Shared Island initiative are:

To work with all communities and traditions on the island to build consensus around a shared future, underpinned by the Good Friday Agreement;

To support a comprehensive programme of research and foster constructive and inclusive dialogue, engaging all communities and traditions, on a shared island;

To work in partnership with the Northern Ireland Executive, through the North South Ministerial Council, and with the British Government to address shared strategic challenges for the island; and,

To enable delivery of all-island infrastructure commitments and new investment and development opportunities, supported by the Shared Island Fund;

The key objectives for this SCoTENS research are:

To explore and harness the potential of the Good Friday Agreement to enhance understanding across communities through education.

To support action-oriented research to support pedagogical practice and development in curriculum delivery.

To inform professional and policy development considerations on a shared island basis in these areas.

IN ORDER TO VERIFY THAT THIS APPLICATION HAS THE SUPPORT OF ALL THE PARTICIPATING PARTNER INSTITUTIONS/ORGANISATIONS, A LETTER OF APPROVAL FROM ALL PARTNERS’ INSTITUTIONS MUST BE SIGNED BY THE RESPECTIVE HEAD OF SCHOOL/DEPARTMENT/EXECUTIVE OFFICER AND SUBMITTED WITH THIS APPLICATION. THIS MUST INCLUDE A LETTER OF APPROVAL FROM ANY PARTNER INSTITUTION OUTSIDE NORTHERN IRELAND OR IRELAND (WHERE APPROPRIATE).
