SCoTENS Research Webinar 2025

SCoTENS Research Webinar took place on 26 March 2025 online. 

The event was organised for members of SCoTENS and featured presentations from several successful projects funded in recent SCoTENS calls.

The presenters included

  • Dr. Pamela Moffett from Stranmillis University College and Dr. Siún Nic Mhuirí from Dublin City University, who discussed their project “Outdoor Learning in Mathematics: Building Capacity for Outdoor Learning in Mathematics through a Cross-Border Collaboration.”
  • Dr. Laura Gormley from Dublin City University and Dr. Devon Ramey from Queen’s University Belfast, who presented their project “Planning and Language Aims of the Autism Community and Educators: Exploring the Preferences of the Autistic Community and Educational Professionals in Relation to Individual Education Planning and Language Use.”
  • Professor Barbara Skinner from Ulster University, Richeal Ní Thiarnaigh from Marino Institute of Education, and Dr. Maria Stewart from the Education Authority, who shared their project “Home-School Partnership with Migrant Families: A Way Forward on the Island of Ireland.”
  • Beverley McCormick from Ulster University and Dr. Mairead Holden from Trinity College Dublin, who presented their project “Exploring Integration of STEM with Teachers North and South.”

The presentation for this year’s John Coolahan Award was made by Professor Noel Purdy, Director of Research and Scholarship; Director of CREU (the Centre for Research in Educational Underachievement); and Head of Education Studies at Stranmillis University College Belfast. The award was presented to the authors of the Seed Funding Report, recognized for aligning with the values and ideals of SCoTENS. This year’s successful team included Dr. Michelle Fitzpatrick from Mary Immaculate College, Beverley McCormick from Ulster University, and Dr. Mairead Holden from Trinity College Dublin for their project “ExISTeNS: Exploring Integration of STEM with Teachers North and South.”

The event concluded with a short Q&A session to assist potential applicants for this year’s seed funding programme. SCoTENS would like to thank all participants for their contributions to this rewarding event. We are delighted to hear that the work and values that SCoTENS holds dear are shared by so many of our colleagues.
